Today, I'm excited to share with you one of my favourite recipes, Ayam Goreng (Fried Chicken)! It's a popular dish in Malaysia and Indonesia, and it's incredibly flavourful and satisfying.

Ayam Goreng Recipe

Firstly, let's gather our ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken or 4 chicken thighs, cut into pieces
  • 2 cups of buttermilk or yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoons of grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons of minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon of cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon of paprika powder
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • Oil for frying

Now, let's get started with the instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the chicken pieces with buttermilk, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, paprika powder, and salt. Make sure the chicken is fully coated with the marinade. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight for the best results.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and baking powder.
  3. Heat up the oil in a deep frying pan or pot. The oil should be enough to cover the chicken pieces when frying.
  4. Coat each chicken piece with the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour. Fry the chicken in hot oil until it's golden brown and crispy, about 10-12 minutes.
  5. Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
  6. Serve the Ayam Goreng hot with your favourite dipping sauce and side dishes, like steamed rice or coleslaw.
